The Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery or Mahamevnawa Bhavana Asapu Moolasthanaya (Sinhala: මහමෙව්නාව බෞද්ධ ආරාමය), located in Polgahawela, Kurunegala District, Sri Lanka is the main Mahamevnawa temple of its chain of monasteries in Sri Lanka. Mahamevnawa Organization The organization was established in 1999 in Sri Lanka by Ven. Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thera, for the purpose of spreading the teachings of the Gautama Buddha. At present, there are more than 90 Sri Lankan and international branches including Australia, Canada, England, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, South Korea, and the United States. Polgahawela Branch The monastery at Polgahawela was established in Waduwawa village on 14 August 1999. Currently, the temple is home to over 100 monks.  Other Local Branches Central Province: Kundasale, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Rattota. Eastern Province: Ampara, Kantale, Vilgamvehera Raja Maha Viharaya.
