According to chronicles, King Dutugemunu on the seventh day after the victory in eliminating the Chola influence and bringing the country under a single flag went to Tissa Wewa for water sports. He placed his spear/sceptre (the relics of the Buddha are said to be embedded in this sceptre) and other clothes in a nearby place and enjoyed the occasion (Jayasuriya, 2016).
