Amarasuriya Walawwa

Amarasuriya Walawwa or Amaragiri Walawwa (presently known as Amarasuriya Teacher Training College) is an old manor house situated in Unawatuna in Galle District, Sri Lanka. It is presently used as a teacher's training college.

History
This mansion known as Amaragiri was built by Muhandiram Thomas de Silva Amarasuriya (1847-1907 A.D.) as his private residence (De Silva & Chandrasekara, 2009). It was donated to the government by one of his descendants H. W. Amarasuriya in 1970 to establish the "Teachers' Training College", Unawatuna (De Silva & Chandrasekara, 2009).

The mansion
The two-storied mansion portrays features of late 19th and early 20th-century architecture (Abeyawardana, 2004). A collonaded portico in front acts as the entrance to the house and it has delicately carved valance boards. The carved sunshades and wood panels over the doors and windows have added a beautiful appearance to the building. The floor of the building is laid with old tiles.

Some parts of the British television drama "The Good Karma Hospital" were shot around this mansion.
