Hiriwadunna Wewa
H iriwadunna Wewa (Sinhala: හිරිවඩුන්න වැව) is a reservoir situated in Hiriwadunna in Anuradhapura District, Sri Lanka. The old Buddhist temple Hiriwadunna Viharaya is located about 500 m distance from the north bank of this reservoir. History This tank is probably the ancient Aggivaddhamanaka tank built by King Vasabha  (67-111 A.D.) of Anuradhapura (Nicholas, 1963). In the past, it had been called by several names such as Abhivaddhamanaka, Akvadunna and Abivadunna (Nicholas, 1963). According to C.W Nicholas, , the Agivadamana Wawi which is mentioned in the Habarana Inscription of the 2nd century A.D. is none other than the present Hiriwadunna Wewa (Nicholas, 1963). However, S. Paranavitana has shown that Agivadamana Wawi must be the present Habarana Wewa located in the vicinity of the rock on which the aforesaid inscription has been engraved (Paranavitana, 1983).
