History
The history of this temple runs back to the 17th century. Prince Vijayapala (1634-1654 A.D.), the brother of King Rajasinghe II (1635-1687 A.D.) is said to have constructed it (Abeyawardana, 2004). Later, King Kirti Sri Rajasinghe (1747-1782 A.D.) donated land to this temple by a decree recorded on a copper plate (Abeyawardana, 2004).
