Galgamuwa Wewa (Kurunegala)

Mahagalgamuwa Wewa is a reservoir situated in Galgamuwa village. It is the ancient Girisigamukavapi restored by King Parakramabahu (1153-1186 A.D.).

G algamuwa Wewa , also known as Mahagalgamuwa Wewa (Sinhala: ගල්ගමුව වැව, මහගල්ගමුව වැව) is a reservoir situated in Galgamuwa village in Ehatuwewa DS Division, Kurunegala District, Sri Lanka. It is located in the Mi Oya River basin. History According to Rajaratnakari, the Galgamuwa tank was constructed by King Mahasena of Anuradhapura (Muller, 1883). Also, scholars identify this tank as the ancient Girisigamukavapi restored by King Parakramabahu I (1153-1186 A.D.) of Polonnaruwa (Nicholas, 1963). The present tank was completed in 1877 (Arumugam, 1969).
