The Ratnapura Clock Tower (Sinhala: රත්නපුර ඔරලෝසු කණුව) is located in the middle of Ratnapura town, Sri Lanka. History The clock tower was erected on 17 March 1922 to commemorate 93 British nationals who died in the First World War (1914-1918), representing the Ratnapura District. The English inscription on the tower can be read as follows; This tower was erected by public subscription in memory of the men from this district who laid down their lives in the Great War 1914-1918 and whose names are recorded thereon As mentioned on one of the gears, the clock was manufactured in 1921 by J.W.
