Ma Lena | Marble Cave Complex in Sri Lanka

Ma Lena Ma-Lena (Sinhala: මා ලෙන මාබල් ගුහාව) is an underground marble cave complex located at the western foothills of the Peak Wilderness Mountain range in Guruluwana village near Kalu Ganga River in Ratnapura District, Sri Lanka (Jayasingha et al., 2011). Located in the wet zone of the country, the cave, geologically, is made up of impure marble of the Highland Complex (Jayasingha et al., 2011). Mainly there are two entrances to the cave complex from the north and south directions (Jayasingha et al., 2011). The north entrance opens to a higher elevated chamber complex while the other entrance opens to a lower elevated chamber complex (Jayasingha et al., 2011; Katupotha & Sumananarathna, 2020). Both chamber complexes are connected by vertical tunnels and small chambers at various places (Jayasingha et al., 2011; Katupotha & Sumananarathna, 2020).
