Totapolakanda | Third Tallest Mountain in Sri Lanka
Totapolakanda , also known as Thotupolakanda (Sinhala: තොටුපොල කන්ද), is the third tallest mountain in Sri Lanka. Situated in Nuwara Eliya District adjacent to the  Horton Plains National Park , the mountain rises to an altitude of 2,357 meters (7,732.94ft.) above mean sea level (Vithanage, 1988). In the Sinhala language,  Thotupola-kanda  means "the Mountain of Landing". Presently, without any archaeological or historical evidence, this mountain is promoted by some locals and tourist agencies as a Hindu place related to Ravana, a mythical figure depicted in the Indian epic Ramayanaya. According to them, Totapolakanda is one of the six sites where the airports of Ravana are located. However, the authenticity of the Ramayanaya is controversial and hence it is today dismissed as a complete myth by Sri Lankan scholars (JRASSL, 2014).
