Ibbankatuwa Wewa is a perennial reservoir in Matale District. The famous Ibbankatuwa Megalithic Cemetery is located south of this reservoir.
Ibbankatuwa Wewa Ibbankatuwa Wewa , also known as Dambulu Oya Reservoir (Sinhala: ඉබ්බන්කටුව වැව, දඹුලු ඔය ජලාශය) is a perennial reservoir in Matale District, Sri Lanka ( Weerathilake et al., 2007 ). The famous Ibbankatuwa Megalithic Cemetery is located south of this reservoir. The reservoir is also popular among visitors for its small island called Satutu Dupatha (pleasure island) to which a boat service operates. History The reservoir was constructed in 1979 under the Accelerated Mahaweli Development Scheme to be used as a reservoir and a distribution point in the discharge of water from Bowatenna Reservoir to Kala Wewa (Abeyawardana, 2004). It also serves as the water resource for Mahaweli H Zone diverting its water through Ranava Wewa (Abeyawardana, 2004). The embankment of the reservoir is a homogeneous earthfill dam 12 m in height and 1,692.31 m in length (Abeyawardana, 2004). The total capacity is 2,923.08 cubic meters (Abeyawardana, 2004).
