Weheragoda Stupa (Warakagoda)
The Veheragoda Stupa Archaeological Site (Sinhala: වරකාගොඩ වෙහෙරගොඩ ස්තූප පුරාවිද්යා ස්ථානය) Weheragoda Stupa is situated in Warakagoda village in Kalutara District, Sri Lanka. The site consists of a small Stupa now restored by the Department of Archaeology. The Stupa is believed to be part of the ancient Ganeuda Purana Viharaya which is located about 750 m southeast of of the site. It has been built on an elevated square-shaped platform bounded by uncarved stone blocks. As the bricks used for the Stupa are similar to those used in constructions of the Polonnaruwa Period , this is also considered to be a construction belonging to that period. It is mentioned in local sources that King Manabharana constructed a palace in this area in the 12th century A.D. (Abeywardana, 2002).
