Kanugolla Viharaya is a cave temple in Badulla District with drip-ledged caves and Indigenous-people paintings, protected since 2008 and 2016.
Kanugolla Viharaya K anugolla Viharaya or Kanugolla Purana Gallen Viharaya (Sinhala: කණුගොල්ල විහාරය), is a Buddhiat temple situated in Kanugolla village in Rideemaliyadda in Badulla District, Sri Lanka. History The existence of drip-ledged caves in the temple premises indicates that this temple has its roots extending to a very early period probably to the begining of the Anuradhapura Period . The site is also notable for its paintings of Adiwasi people (indigenous people). A Protected Site The two drip ledged rock caves and pond near the Kanugolla Sailabimbarama Vihara premises and the cave temple with rock art, drip ledges at the premises of Kanugolla Shailabimbarama Vihara belonging to Kanugolla village situated in the Grama Niladhari Division No. 11-B–Ridimaliyadde South, in Ridimaliyadda Divisional Secretary’s Division are archaeological protected monuments, declared by two government gazette notifications published on 6 June 2008 and 3 March 2016.
