Kandalama Wewa (Sinhala: කණ්ඩලම වැව) is a reservoir located in Kandalama village in Matale District, Sri Lanka. History The name "Kandalama" doesn't appear in ancient chronicles. Some scholars believe that "Duratissa Wewa", a tank built by King Saddha Tissa (137-119 B.C.), was the ancient name used to identify the present Kandalama reservoir (Abeywardana, 2004; Fernando, 1980). Reservoir The tank was formed by constructing a dam across the Mirisgoni Oya (Arumugam, 1969). The restoration work of Kandalama Wewa was carried out during the years 1952-1957 by the Department of Irrigation (Abeywardana, 2004; Arumugam, 1969). The Mahaweli Development Authority took over the management of the water of the Kandalama reservoir in 1978 (Abeywardana, 2004).
