Sri Naga Viharaya (Jaffna) Not to be confused with Sri Naga Viharaya (Srawasthipura) Sri Naga Viharaya , also known as Sri Naga Vihara International Buddhist Center (Sinhala: යාපනය නාග විහාරය; Tamil: ஸ்ரீ நாக விகாரை, யாழ்ப்பாணம்), is a Buddhist temple situated in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. This Viharaya is a modern Buddhist temple with recently built structures. However, according to folklore, the history of this place runs back to the period of King Devanampiyatissa (247-207 B.C.). It is believed that the Sacred Bodhi Tree Sapling that was brought to the shore of Jambukola by Sangamitta Theri [the daughter of Emperor Asoka (c.268-232 B.C.)] from India was kept at this place for veneration upon a request made by the Nagas who lived in the region.
