Amarasuriya Walawwa
Amarasuriya Walawwa or Amaragiri Walawwa (Sinhala: අමරසූරිය වලව්ව) (presently known as Amarasuriya Teacher Training College ) is an old manor house situated in Unawatuna in Galle District, Sri Lanka. It is presently used as a teacher's training college. History This mansion known as Amaragiri was built by Muhandiram Thomas de Silva Amarasuriya (1847-1907 A.D.) as his private residence (De Silva & Chandrasekara, 2009). It was donated to the government by one of his descendants H. W. Amarasuriya in 1970 to establish the "Teachers' Training College", Unawatuna (De Silva & Chandrasekara, 2009). The mansion The two-storied mansion portrays features of late 19th and early 20th-century architecture (Abeyawardana, 2004). A collonaded portico in front acts as the entrance to the house and it has delicately carved valance boards.
