History

According to folklore, the history of this temple runs back to the Anuradhapura Period. Evidence of some ancient structures such as stone doorframes, Sandakada Pahana and broken pillars is found scattered in the temple premises (Godakumbura, 1964). The remnants of a dilapidated Stupa of about 8 ft high are also said to have discovered on a neighbouring private land (Godakumbura, 1964).
