Mirandarama Viharaya
Modara Mirandarama Viharaya (Sinhala: මෝදර මිරන්දාරාම විහාරය, මිරන්දාරාමය) (also known as Mirandaramaya ) is a Buddhist temple situated in Mutwal in Colombo District, Sri Lanka. History Don Andiris Mirando Samaranayake established this temple in 1833 and bestowed it to Gunarathana Thera who was residing at the time at Balapitiya Mudalindarama Viharaya (Manathunga, 2016). This is the third Buddhist place of worship that erected in the Colombo area after Paramananda Viharaya in Kotahena (Corea, 1988). This temple is also said to be the first one in Colombo to have a Stupa . Mirandarama Viharaya played a major role in the propagation of Buddhism in the area. In 1908, a school by the name Vijayaraja Buddhist Vidyalaya was erected on a land belonging to this Viharaya under the guidance of the then incumbent of the temple. Presently this school is known as Modara Ananda Madya Maha Vidyalaya (Manathunga, 2016). References 1) Corea, I., 1988. Glimpses of Colombo. Colombo Municipal Council. p.73. 2…
