History This housing complex was built during the latter part of the 19th century by the British as official quarters for the officers of the Railway Department (De Silva & Chandrasekara, 2009). The Railway Training School was also built along with this project (De Silva & Chandrasekara, 2009). Houses The houses are located on both waysides of the J.D. Fernando Mawatha off Baseline road. They are two-storyed buildings consisting of a hall, bedrooms, and two verandas at the front and rear sides (De Silva & Chandrasekara, 2009). The arched doors, windows, round masonry pillars, and the upper balcony with wooden railing show characteristics of British architecture.
