Dharani House (Abhayagiriya)

Dharani House (Sinhala: ධාරණී ගෘහය) is a ruined building situated in Abhayagiri Monastery premises in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. Dharani A form of mystic incantations identify as Dharani (Dhammaratana, 2000). Paying homage to Dharani Sutras which are considered as protective stanzas was a ritual in Mahayana Buddhism. Several slab inscriptions containing Dharani Sutras written in Sanskrit of the 9th century A.D. have been found from this building (Dhammaratana, 2000).
