President's House (Colombo)
The historic President's House (Sinhala: ජනාධිපති මන්දිරය, කොළඹ; Tamil: சனாதிபதி மாளிகை, கொழும்பு) is located next to Gordon Gardens premises at No. 10 on Janadhipathi Mawatha, in Colombo District, Sri Lanka. Presently, it is the official residence and workplace of the Sri Lankan President. History
The building was constructed by Johan van Angelbeek, the last Dutch Governor of Sri Lanka from 1794 to 1796, spending his personal wealth (Manathunga, 2016; Rajapakshe et al., 2018). In 1804, the English took over the building and converted it into the official residence of their Governor (Rajapakshe et al., 2018). Since then, the building was known as the "King's House" and the "Queen's House" until it became the "President's House" when Sri Lanka became a republic in 1972 (Manathunga, 2016; Rajapakshe et al., 2018).
