Manning Market (Peliyagoda) | Oldest Vegetable Market in Colombo

Manning Market (Sinhala: පෑළියගොඩ මැනිං වෙළෙඳපොළ සංකීර්ණය) is one of the oldest and busiest wholesale vegetable markets in Sri Lanka located in Peliyagoda in Colombo. It acts as a central point for collecting vegetables, fruits and other food items brought from agricultural areas in the country and redistributing them to other local markets.

The market was initially located in a plot of about 2 acres adjoining the Olcott Mawatha and Bastian Mawatha in Pettah. However, as the space of that site was not adequate for businesses, a decision was made in 2011 to relocate the market to Peliyagoda. The construction of the new market began in 2013, in line with the government’s city transformation programme and it was declared open in November 2020.

Stretches across 13.5 acres of land, the market complex consists of nearly 1,200 shops, a large parking lot, restrooms, medical facilities, banks, restaurants, cold rooms etc.
