Thapodhanarama Mula Maha Viharaya Thapodhanarama Mula Maha Viharaya (Sinhala: තපෝධනාරාම මූල මහා විහාරය), is a Buddhist temple in Mahagoda village in Galle District, Sri Lanka. It is situated on the wayside of Ambalangoda-Karandeniya road about 2.4 km distance from Karandeniya town. Galagoda Shailathalarama Viharaya which is popular for having one of the longest reclining Buddha statues in the country is situated in front of this temple. Image house The Buddha shrine or the image house of Thapodhanarama Viharaya is considered an important monument bearing archaeological value. In the inner chamber of it is the main Buddha statue sculpted in the meditating posture and it is flanked by two other standing Buddha statues facing each other. The inner and outer walls of the chamber are painted with murals drawn in the art tradition related to the Kandyan Period .
