Sabarale Niwasarama Viharaya

Sabarale Sri Niwasarama Purana Viharaya is a Buddhist temple in Ihala-Vitiyala. The construction of the temple was begun in 1806 and finished by 1815.

Sabarale Sri Niwasarama Purana Viharaya  (Sinhala: සබරලේ ශ්‍රී නිවාසාරාම පුරාණ විහාරය) is a Buddhist temple in Ihala-Vitiyala in Matara District, Sri Lanka. It is situated on the Kadduwa-Kamburupitiya road about 3 km distance from the Kamburupitiya clock tower. The temple is maintained under the lineage of the monks of Wehelle Dhammadinna Thera (Ranaweera, 2015). History The construction of the Sabarale Niwasarama temple was begun in 1806 and finished by around 1815 (Ranaweera, 2015). Athuruliye Keerti Sri Sumangala Thera pioneered the establishment of this temple (Ranaweera, 2015). A Sannasa  that is preserved in the temple reveals that Sumangala Thera was given the judicial authority to resolve disputes by Colin Campbell (1776-1847 A.D.), the 8th Governor of British Ceylon from 1841 to 1847 (Ranaweera, 2015).
