Alahena Wewa, also known as Damana Wewa (Sinhala: අලහේන වැව, දමන වැව), is a reservoir situated in Damana in Ampara District, Sri Lanka. The ancient Aloka Rajamaha Viharaya is located about 600 m southwest of this reservoir.
History
This new reservoir was constructed in 1957-1959 by the Gal Oya Development Board (Arumugam 1969).
The Reservoir
Alahena Wewa is one of the tanks in the Gal Oya River Basin. The reservoir bund is about 4,300 ft. in length while it has a storage of 1,170 acre feet (Arumugam, 1969). The water extends over 250 acres at its full supply level (Arumugam, 1969). The reservoir has 1 sluice and 1 spill (Arumugam, 1969).
