W eligahakandiya Wewa , also known in Tamil as Welikkandi Kulam (Sinhala: වැලිගහකණ්ඩිය වැව) is a medium-type reservoir in Batticaloa District, Sri Lanka. Belonging to the Rugam Irrigation Division, it is surrounded by Rugam Wewa to the north, Unnichchai Tank to the northeast and Borapola Wewa to the southwest. History Situated across the Thevali Odai Aru Stream, the restoration work of the reservoir commenced in 1955 (Arumugam, 1969). The Reservoir Weligahakandiya Wewa is one of the tanks located in the Mundeni Aru River Basin. Its bund length is 804 m. It has a storage capacity of 1,459 acre feet and water extends over 259.45 acres at its full supply level. The dead storage is 3 acre feet. The tank is fed by its 5,806.8 acres catchment.
