Ampara Wewa is a tank situated in Ampara town. It was constructed under the Pattipola Aru Scheme; now incorporated in the Gal Oya Scheme.
Ampara Wewa A mpara Wewa (Sinhala: අම්පාර වැව) is a minor perennial tank situated in Ampara town, Sri Lanka. It is surrounded by Konduwatuwana Tank to the west, Ampara town to the east and the Buddhangala Sanctuary to the north. The famous Japanese Peace Pagoda is located on the western edge of the tank. History The present tank was constructed under the Pattipola Aru Scheme; now incorporated in the Gal Oya Scheme (Arumugam, 1969). It was restored in 1873 and improved in 1912 (Arumugam, 1969). Reservoir Ampara Wewa is located in the Gal Oya River basin. Except the drainage from its own catchment area, a channel from the Konduwatuwana reservoir supplies water to the Ampara tank (Arumugam, 1969). In the late 1960s, the tank's bund was about 1 mile in length and the water was extending in an area of about 900 acres at its full supply level (Arumugam, 1969).
