Himidurawa Wewa |
Himidurawa Wewa (Sinhala: හිමිදුරාව වැව) is a reservoir situated in Himidurawa village in Ampara District, Sri Lanka. It is surrounded by Konduwatuwana Tank to the east and Gal Oya Valley North East Sanctuary to the west.
History
This tank was constructed during the 1951-1952 period by the Gal Oya Development Board under the Gal Oya Multipurpose Scheme (Arumugam, 1969)
The reservoir
The reservoir is located in the Gal Oya River basin. The bund of the reservoir was about 5,000 ft. in length and the water was extending in an area of about 275 acres at its full supply level in the late 1960s (Arumugam, 1969). The present tank has one spill and two sluices (Arumugam, 1969). It feeds the nearby Konduwaruwana Tank (Arumugam, 1969).
