Watagedara Vishrama Salawa , also called by some as Watagedara Ambalama (Sinhala: වටගෙදර අම්බලම විශ්රාම ශාලාව), is an old pilgrim rest located in Watagedara village in Matara District, Sri Lanka.
History
This pilgrim rest can be identified as an Ambalama, a traditional resting place built by locals in ancient times to accommodate
wayfarers who were travelling to distant places. They were also used as a
place for people to gather, hold meetings and serve as a public place
in society. During the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, Ambalamas were
spread all over the country.
The structure
The pilgrim rest is a brick and mortar building similar to a small house.
