Ratmalane Sri Dharmaloka Thera

Ven Ratmalane Sri Dharmaloka Thera (1828-1887) was a Sri Lankan Buddhist monk and scholar.

Life events
Born on 28 May 1828, he entered the Buddhist order by the name Dharmaloka under the mentorship of Andupe Sonuttara Thera (BJM, 1956). Sonuttara Thera entrusted him to the care and guidance of Walane Siddhartha Thera at Ratmalana Parama Dhamma Chetiya Pirivena (BJM, 1956).

In 1875, Dharmaloka Thera established Vidyalankara Pirivena with the support of his pupil Ratmalane Dharmarama Thera (BJM, 1956). The Pirivena was promoted to the state of University by the government later and is presently known as the University of Kelaniya. The magazine "Satya Samuchchaya" was launched under the patronage of Dharmaloka Thera.

He passed away on 15 August 1887 at the age of 59 (BJM, 1956).
