Katusu Konda (lit: the Lizard's Back; Sinhala: කටුසු කොන්ද) is a peak [1,322 m (4337.27 ft. amsl)] at the end of the Hanthana Mountain Range in Kandy District, Sri Lanka. Presently, it has become a famous place among local tourists, offering a thrilling experience for those seeking adventurous hiking.
The Peak
The name Katusu Konda is derived from its distinct topographical feature resembling a knife edge, similar to the structure of a lizard's backbone. The geological formation of this peak provides visitors with a picturesque panoramic view.
The hike to Katusu Konda is an adventurous journey. The top section of the summit poses a considerable level of risk due to the high winds and the presence of narrow and steep slopes. The trek usually takes 3 to 4 hours and travelers should avoid undertaking the journey on rainy days.
