Castlereigh Reservoir

Castlereigh Reservoir
Castlereigh Reservoir (Sinhala: කාසල්රි ජලාශය; Tamil: காசல்ரே அணை) is a reservoir situated in Dick-Oya in Nuwara Eliya District, Sri Lanka. It was built by constructing a gravity dam across the Kehelgamu Oya, a tributary of the Kelani Ganga River.

Castlereigh is the main large reservoir at the top of Kehelgamu Oya and it is one of the two major storage reservoirs in the Laxapana hydropower complex (Shantha, 2008). It with a storage of 44.8 MCM feeds the Wimalasurendra Power Station of capacity 2 x 25 MW at Norton Bridge (Shantha, 2008). The waters released from the Wimalasurendra Power Station after the operation get collected in Norton Pond before they are brought down along another tunnel to the Old Laxapana Power Station.

The reservoir is also home to the Castlereigh Waterdrome.
