Warnagala Ella Falls |
Warnagala Ella Falls (Sinhala: වර්ණගල ඇල්ල) is a waterfall situated in the Ratnapura District, Sri Lanka. Located in the woods near the Warnagala Ambalama, which is situated on the footpath running from Erathna to the sacred Sri Pada Mountain (Adam's Peak), this waterfall is popular among visitors who are on the Sri Pada pilgrimage.
The Falls
Created by the waters of the Kuru Ganga River, the fall is about 40 meters in height. The Sinhala name "Warnagala" means "coloured rock," and it is believed that the name reflects the different colours visible on the rocks surrounding the waterfall.
The site of the fall is not suitable for bathing or swimming, especially during the rainy season. The water levels in the basin rise rapidly in the rainy season, making it potentially unsafe for visitors.
