Dummala Ella Falls |
Dummala Ella Falls (Sinhala: දුම්මල ඇල්ල) is one of the popular waterfalls located along the Bulathkohupitiya-Dolosbage road in Kegalle District, Sri Lanka. Hidden in the woods of the Karambuneti kele, the fall is situated near rural Narangala village.
The word Dummala is a traditional Sinhala name used for naturally occurring substance that can be found, either at uppermost crustal levels (mostly under the freshwater swampy areas) or as a dried resin like gums extracted from the Dummala tree (Shorea oblongifolia), which is endemic to Sri Lanka. It is powdered and used to make flares in Thovil exorcisms and processions etc.
The fall stands at a height of about 10 m. The waters of the fall finally join the Ritigaha Oya, a tributary of the Kelani Ganga River. The place is suitable for safe bathing.
