Ellewela Wewa (Sinhala: ඇල්ලේවෙල වැව) is a reservoir in Matara District, Sri Lanka. It is located in Ellewela village about 5.6 km from Kamburupitiya Junction.
History
The present tank was restored in 1876 and again in 2012 (Arumugam, 1969).
The Reservoir
Situated on the southern border of Viharakele Forest, Ellewela Wewa is one of the tanks located in the Nilwala Ganga Basin. At the end of the 1960s, its bund length was about 360 feet and had a storage capacity of 800 acre feet (Arumugam, 1969). The water extended over about 65 acres at its full supply level. The tank is fed by its 2.2-square-mile catchment. The present tank has one spill and one sluice.
