Weerahenegedara Viharaya in Kurunegala is a Dambadeniya-era Buddhist temple, linked by folklore to the giant Veera and minister Vijayasundara.
Weerahenegedara Viharaya Not to be confused with Weherahena Viharaya W eerahenegedara Viharaya , also known as Sri Vijayasundadarama Viharaya (Sinhala: වීරහේනේගෙදර විජයසුන්දරාරාම විහාරය), is a Buddhist temple situated in Kedapathvehera in Bamunakotuwa Divisional Secretariat Division in Kurunegala District, Sri Lanka. History Locals link the history of this temple to the Dambadeniya Period . Folklore says that this temple was built by a giant named Veera, who served in the Dambadeniya Royal Court, under the direction of a minister named Vijayasundara during the Dambadeniya era. Several legends centered around the giant Veera are popular in this region. The area where Veera’s wife lived is known today as Weerambugedera which is located about 10 km south of Weerahenegedara temple.
