Dry Zone Botanic Gardens, Mirijjawila (Sinhala: මිරිජ්ජවිල උද්භිද උද්‍යානය) is one of the botanical gardens in Sri Lanka. It is located in Mirijjawila, nearly 13 km to the northwest of Hambantota town. It is the first botanic garden in the country designed by local experts (APR, 2012).
History
Mirijjawila is the first botanic garden established in Sri Lanka after its independence which was gained from the British in 1948. The construction work of the garden was started in 2006 and it was declared open to the public on 14 November 2013 by the then Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse.
The site
Situated in the dry zone of the country, the garden is extending in an area of 300 acres [(121 hectares) APR, 2012]. The garden mainly serves as a conservation ground for dry and arid zone plants in the region.

A short note for local school students
මිරිජ්ජවිල වියලි කලාපීය උද්භිද උද්‍යානය
මිරිජ්ජවිල වියලි කලාපීය උද්භිද උද්‍යානය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ උද්භිද උද්‍යාන අතුරින් එකකි. එය හම්බන්තොට නගරයේ සිට කි.මී. 13ක් පමණ වයඹ දෙසින් පිහිටි මිරිජ්ජවිල ඉදිකොට තිබේ.
1948 වර්ෂයේදී බ්‍රිතාන්‍යයෙන් නිදහස ලබා ගැනීමෙන් අනතුරුව මෙරට ඉදිකරන ලද පළමු උද්භිද උද්‍යානය මෙය වෙයි. 2006 වර්ෂයේ ඉදිකිරීම් ඇරඹි මෙම උද්‍යානය 2013 නොවැම්බර් 14වන දින මහජනයාට විවෘත කෙරිණි.
දිවයිනේ වියලි කලාපයෙහි පිහිටි උද්‍යානය අක්කර 300ක (හෙක්ට්යාර 121) පමණ භුමි වපසරියක විහිදී පවතී. වියලි හා ශුෂ්ක කලාපීය ශාක සංරක්ෂණය කිරීම මෙම උද්‍යානයේ අරමුණු අතුරින් එකකි.
