The Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Museum (Sinhala: මාර්ටින් වික්රමසිංහ ජන කෞතුකාගාරය) is a memorial museum situated in Koggala in Galle District, Sri Lanka. It is dedicated to Martin Wickramasinghe (1890-1976), an eminent Sri Lankan author who is often acclaimed as the father of modern Sinhala literature.
Wickramasinghe's house & the Hall of Life
The house in which Martin Wickramasinghe born was converted into a memorial museum in 1981 (Rambukwella, 2014). The building is thought to be nearly 200 years old and several objects used by Wickramasinghe are displayed in this museum (Rambukwella, 2014).
The Hall of Life is located in the backyard of Wickramasinghe's house and it displays his life and times through photographs, paintings, sketches, souvenirs, awards and memorabilia. Copies of published works and several pages from handwritten manuscripts are also exhibited here.
The outer museum complex
The outer museum complex primarily displays information of folk arts and crafts and products of folk technology. The objects have been categorized according to different aspects of folk culture represented by them and are displayed across several indoor and outdoor galleries.
