The ruins of an Ancient Preaching Hall is found within the premises of Jetavanarama Monastery located in Anuradhapura District, Sri Lanka.
This building known in ancient times as Dharmasala or Dharmamandapa was used to preach the Dharma and listen to it. The four entrances at all four sides provided the access to this building and the raised platform in the centre of it was the seat of the preacher. It is said that during the reign of King Silakala (522-535 A.D.), a Dharma Pustaka (sacred text) was brought from the citadel to the Jeravana monastery every year and venerated in a hall similar to this kind of building.
