The Old Galle Fort Library situated within the Galle Fort premises is one of the earliest libraries in Sri Lanka.
History
Located adjacent to the Dutch Reformed Church, the library building has a history running back to the year 1832. It was first used as the official residence of the Post Master General and then as a reading hall for soldiers of the Malay Rifle Regiment. In 1845, the building was named "Galle Library" by Governor Sir William Gregory, who was also the consultant to the library.
