Bandaraduwa Megalithic Cemetery (Sinhala: බණ්ඩාරදූව මෙගලිතික සුසාන) is an ancient pre-historic burial site situated in Bandaraduwa village in Ampara District, Sri Lanka.
Cist Burials
The site consists of a large number of tombs of cist type. In this type, the remains of the deceased (vessels containing ashes/bone fragments and other belongings used by the individual) are placed within the cist made of four stone slabs kept to form a rectangular space. A flat slab of rock is then placed over the burial.
A Protected Site
The government has declared the Bandaraduwa megalithic cemetery site (n Grama Niladhari Division No. W/104B/ 2, Bandaraduwa in the Divisional Secretary’s Division, Uhana) an archaeological protected monument through a gazette notification published on 26 December 2014.
