Molligoda Degambada Viharaya |
Degambada Viharaya, also known as Maha Viharaya (Sinhala: මොල්ලිගොඩ දෙගම්බද විහාරය), is a Buddhiat temple situated in Molligoda village near Wadduwa in Kalutara District, Sri Lanka. In the past, it was also known as Dawatagahawatta or Tittawela Pansala.
History
The history of Degambada Viharaya goes back to the 19th century. This temple was established by Wadduwe Sri Dhammananda Thera of the Malwatta Chapter after he was ordinated in 1807. According to the documents in temple archive, the quadrangular sanctum and the ordination chamber with Dhamma auditorium were built in 2392 B.E. (1849 A.D.). The second shrine room of the Vihara, was constructed in 2440 B.E. (1896 A.D.). The bellfry was erected in 1937.
