Panama Wewa bund |
Panama Wewa (Sinhala: පානම වැව) is a reservoir located in Panama in Ampara District, Sri Lanka. The ancient Buddhist temple Panama Wewe Vehera is located about 0.5 km southeast of this tank.
Panama Wewa is one of the reservoirs located in the Wila Oya River basin. Its bund was about 4,385 m long and had a storage capacity of 2,170 acre feet by the late 1960s (Arumugam, 1969). The water extended over about 300 acres at its full supply level (Arumugam, 1969). The catchment of the tank is about 1 square mile while it has a supply from a channel from the Wila Oya anicut (Arumugam, 1969). It has two spills and one sluice.
